Crown Expands Casino Gambling Thanks To Australia's Need For Cash
James Packer's plan was to buy casinos in the US, and expand his Crown casino empire into the states. That plan did not go very well after a couple of Gaming Commissions denied his advances.
Now he has gone back to Australia and his lobbying team have come up with a sweetheart of a deal for his Crown casino. They will be able to expand their operations, in exchange for giving the State Government cash and more taxes.
"These changes will give Crown casino more flexibility and capacity to develop its business so it can maintain its status as a world class casino and entertainment facility," said Gaming Minister Tony Robinson.
Not everyone is happy about the gambling expansion, however. Some have stated that it was a magnificent job of persuasion by Crown lobbyists. Others believe that the government has sold out their values.
"John Bumbry thinks economic management is all about increasing gaming taxes and expanding gambling in Victoria," said Opposition Gaming spokesman, Michael O'Brien, "If it's gambling that can cause serious social and economic harm....then the government has a responsibility to take appropriate action."
