Cruise Ship Casino Gambling Becoming A Trend Of The Past
Back a couple of decades ago in Florida, cruise ship casino gambling was fun and new. Anyone wanting to enjoy a night out could simply hop on the boat for a couple of hours and head out into international waters.
Once into those waters, cruisers would be able to enjoy a fine dinner buffet and casino gambling, the latter of which could not be found anywhere on land.
These days, the cruise ship casino gambling trend has run its course. The popularity of these joy rides ended shortly after the land based casino boom happened. These cruise companies are now starting to realize that their profit margin and customer base have both become almost nonexistent.
"As gambling invades new ares, it acts much like a black hole that drains money out of local economies, takes customers and revenue away from local businesses and causes a net economic drain on surrounding communities. Port Canaveral likely will have a sinking boat in its harbor," said Chad Hills, analyst for gambling research and policy at Focus on the Family Action.
In South Florida, the cruise ship industry has been particularly hard. Not only did the Seminole Hard Rock arrive and offer everything that the cruise ships did, but other casinos began popping up as well.
The pari-mutuels in the area all received the right to have poker rooms and slot machines, and the Seminoles have expanded their offerings to include blackjack.
