Cubs Block Rooftop Advertisement For Horseshoe Casino
The Chicago Cubs have decided to play hardball with a casino in Illinois. The Cubs have erected two green signboards to block an advertisement on a rooftop for a casino across from Wrigley Field.
Cubs fans have become accustomed to seeing the red sign of Budweiser for many years in that prime location. Recently, however, the building, across from Wrigley Field, was sold. The new owner blocked the Budweiser sign, saying that they were behind in payments for the ad.
The company disagreed with the new building owner, and brought the case to court, where it was ruled that they were not behind. Soon after, however, Budweiser decided to stop the advertising campaign all together because the new building owner wanted too much money.
In response, the building owner promptly leased out the space to the Horseshoe Casino. The sign has been erected, but the Cubs and new Chairman Tom Ricketts, were unhappy that their product was being used for others advertisement and they were not receiving any of the profits.
That brings us to the past week when Ricketts built the two green signboards. The new boards will keep the Horseshoe sign out of view of television cameras on home run balls that are hit to that area of the park.
