Donald Trump Hoping Tower Will Save Atlantic City Casinos
Atlantic City has been down for quite some time now. The city used to be the gambling capital of the East Coast, but has been struggling to keep their casinos open as of late.
Expanded gambling in neighboring New York and Pennsylvania have made it difficult to attract people to Atlantic City. It used to be the only spot to go if someone wanted to gamble, but now people have options.
Donald Trump has not completely given up on the city that he helped build into a gambling powerhouse. He is hoping that the new tower added to the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort will breathe life into a once proud city.
"There's tremendous competition in Atlantic City, and the smoking ban is going to be a disaster. That's why we're excited about the tower. We think it's going to do extremely well," said Trump.
It has to do well or it may signal the end of Trump in Atlantic City. He is already selling one of his other two casinos in the city and if the new hotel tower does not bring in added revenue, the Donald could exit Atlantic City for good.
Many believe the tower is just what the city needs right now. "It's a good addition to what is one of the premier properties in Atlantic City. It should generate a good amount of additional cash flow for them," said Analyst Ryan Worst, from Brean Murray Carret & Company.
