The state of Ohio has been home to the Dublin Irish Festival for the past twenty-three years and the event is expected to attract over 100,000 people starting today. Ohioans will sing and dance at the festival, many waiting patiently for the arrival of casinos in the near future.
In past year's the festival has been one of the marquee events held in Ohio, but that will change once the four casinos are built in the coming years. Last November, Ohio voters approved casinos for Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland, and Toledo.
As for the festival that began today at 4PM and runs through Sunday, visitors will have plenty of options to keep them busy. Bagpipe players, Irish shops, games, and food can all be found at the festival but what most people will come to see is the sixty-five acts that will play across seven stages.
The Irish are world renowned for their drinking prowess and alcohol will flow freely throughout the three day event. Even with all of the festivities, there are those in the state who are looking forward to the arrival of other forms of entertainment.
"I have come to the Dublin Irish Festival for five years in a row, but all of the good times will not compare with the first time I can set foot inside a casino in my home state," said Brandon Valez. "I am looking forward to playing slot machines and not having to drive to another state to do so."
For those who are attending the Dublin Festival this weekend, some of the acts may look familiar. General Guinness, Changeling, the Hooligans, Brigid's Cross, and Scythian are just some of the bands that are returning from past years. Entry fee for the festival will be $6 online, $7 at the gate, and a weekend pass can be bought for $23 online.
