Oregon Casino Allows Drinking and Martial Arts Contest
Apparently, beer and fighting can mix at the Wildhorse Resort and Casino in Eastern Oregon, at least. A crowd of about a thousand people turned out for beer and a program of competitive mixed-martial arts fighting last weekend. The Umatilla Indian Reservation board of trustees voted last year to allow alcohol consumption at the casino, after concerns it was losing business to bars and taverns that feature video poker machines.
A casino spokesman says the new alcohol policy is all about providing customer service and levels the playing field with local bars. And the crowd that turned out last weekend for the martial arts and beer event was well-behaved except for a few fans who were asked to leave for using too much foul language.
