Education The Key During National Problem Gambling Awareness Week
National Problem Gambling Awareness Week has began on Monday, and agencies all across the US are focused on giving out as much information as possible. The National Council on Problem Gambling has branches in some of the biggest gambling states in the country.
The objective of this week is clear, to let people know that there are places to go if they are dealing with gambling addictions. Seminars are taking place, and brochures are being handed out on a daily basis.
McNeese State University's Project for the Treatment of Problem Gambling is one of the groups that has been providing help and information for years. They are unlike other groups that are strictly against gambling.
"The Project is neither for nor against gambling," said Annette Kent, outreach coordinator for the project, "The Project is just here to help. Problem gambling affects not only the individual, but also those around them."
In Florida, Windmoor Healthcare employees have joined the battle this week. The employees will focus on educating health care employees about warning signs that could lead to problem gambling. They are working in conjunction with the Florida Council on Compulsive Gambling.
These are just a couple of the organizations that will be helping out this week. Check back with CGW through the week for more updates on where you can find help for you or your loved ones that are having problems with gambling addictions.
