Court Worker Pleads Guilty to $100,000 Theft to Support Gambling

A Superior Court accounting supervisor pleaded guilty to stealing more than $100,000 in court fees and fines during the past 20 years to support a gambling habit. David Anthony Macias, 47, also pleaded guilty Monday to burglary, grand theft, embezzlement, destruction of public records and multiple counts of misappropriation of public funds, prosecutor Mike Still said.

The former El Cajon Superior Court worker faces up to 17 years and eight months in prison when he's sentenced on July 11.Investigators have said that Macias would pocket payments meant to cover fines, fees and other court costs, such as child support.
