Experts Outline Casino Gambling Future At Global Gaming Expo

The casino gambling market in the US has drastically changed over the past decade. On Tuesday, a group of gaming experts have been discussing where the industry is headed in the future at the Global Gaming Expo in Las Vegas.

Nevada was on the minds of many of these experts, most of which were from gaming companies based in Sin City. The message that was delivered was one of caution when looking into further investment opportunities.

Clearly, the economic recession has taken a major toll on many of these companies. The ideas circulating this week have been heavy on lower licensing fees and tax rates. There also was talk of how local governments must get involved.

"You can't have high licensing fees, you can't have high tax rates, and expect for us to make significant investments in your states," said Virginia McDowell, President and Chief Operating Officer of Isle of Capri Casinos.

Others were more concerned with how to clean up the existing areas where casino gambling is prevalent. Of course, on most people's minds was Atlantic City and Las Vegas, the two biggest markets in the US.

"It (Atlantic City casino industry) has a bright future," said Keith Smith, chief Executive Officer of Boyd Gaming, "But it needs some public support. We need the public sector to come to the table and clean up parts of Atlantic City."

Also discussed at the Expo was the state of casino gambling in areas outside of the US. The global market is growing for casino gambling, and the executives discussed ways to help that expansion occur smoothly.
