Finally A Casino May Be Open In Kansas, By December
The state of Kansas has done almost everything possible to delay the opening of their four state owned casinos. Three of the four developers they chose backed out of their deals, but the fourth now says it is close to opening a casino.
Butler National Service Corp., which is a subsidiary of Butler National Corp., is planning a December opening for their Boot Hill Casino and Resort in Dodge City. The news was welcomed by many residents in Dodge City.
"They have been telling us for years that we were getting a casino, and one thing after another has delayed its opening," said observer Barry Wahlberg, "It's nice to know that finally my wife and I will be able to play some slot machines."
The Dodge City experience of the 1870's and 1880's is the theme of the Boot Hill Casino. The project is set to be completed in several different phases, the first of which is the $45 million casino.
The second phase will be the hotel, which is going to cost Butler National an additional $42.5 million. The hotel is not expected to be completed and opened until 2012, but in the meantime, at least people will be able to gamble.
The state is still trying to find suitors for the other three zones where casinos were approved. They have refused to lower their licensing fee, and that has scared off some developers in this tough economy. The casino in Dodge City is projected to generate between $40 and $60 million annually.
