Flamingo Turning To Palm Trees And Boat Drinks With New Casino
Las Vegas has been in need of a makeover for over a decade. The casino resorts in Sin City have lost their luster for vacationers who are now choosing to go to casinos closer to their hometowns. Gambling expansion around the US has caused people to think twice before boarding a plane to Vegas.
In recent years, the city has attempted to redefine itself. First, the addition of mega-casino resorts CityCenter and the Cosmopolitan were supposed to increase traffic coming through the city, and now the Flamingo is turning to boat drinks and palm trees to bring customers back.
The Flamingo, which already has a Margaritaville restaurant on its property, will be opening the Margaritaville Casino on October 1st. The casino will have the decor made famous by Margaritaville brand owner Jimmy Buffett. The singer has made himself a career singing about the beach and the ocean, and the Flamingo is hoping that his loyal following will bring some of their extraneous income to the new casino.
The marketing plan of targeting Jimmy Buffett fans is already paying off for the Flamingo. Joan Thomas is a medical secretary in Florida, and she has already booked her vacation for mid-November with her boyfriend around the new Margaritaville Casino.
"When I found out there was going to be a Margaritaville Casino opening in Las Vegas, I told my boyfriend we had to go check it out," said Thomas. "We booked the flight a couple of months ago, and I am so excited to see the casino. I think it's going to be awesome to have palm trees and other beach decor in a casino setting."
The casino itself has big plans to kick off their grand opening. With tropical drinks always a theme of the Margaritaville brand, the casino will attempt to break the Guinness Book of World Record for the world's largest margarita. The concoction will be mixed beginning on October 11th, and it is expected that over 2,000 gallons of tequila will be used to make the 8,500 gallon drink.
In recent months, Las Vegas casinos have shown signs of coming out of the three year slump that began during the 2008 economic recession. The recovery has taken longer than expected due in large part to the expansion taking place around the US within the gaming industry. Dozens of states have turned to casino gambling as a way to help their budget shortcomings after the recession.
