Former Lottery Winner In Georgia Killed By Ex-Boyfriend
Doris Murray was found dead in her home on Monday, a year after she won the Georgia state lottery. Her ex-boyfriend has been charged by police with the murder.
Last year, on Murray's 41st birthday she won the lottery. She picked up her first check at the same location where she bought the winning ticket. She won $5 million.
Unlike most lottery winners, Murray did not change her lifestyle much. She did not buy a new house, and neighbors claim she didn't even buy a new car. Instead, she chose to take the payment option, $172,000 a year for twenty years.
Now, a year later, police found Murray dead inside her home, with several stab wounds. Neighbors claim they saw Murray and er ex-boyfriend arguing out front. The neighbors called the police for the disturbance, but b the time the police arrived, the ex, Derrick Lorenzo Stanley, had fled.
Police followed Stanley in a chase until he crashed. He is now in an undisclosed hospital with injuries that are not life threatening. Police are still trying to put the pieces to what happened together.
"To be honest with you, we still don't know what happened, because he hasn't given us a statement yet," said Sgt. Stan Wright.
