Board Member and Gambling Addict Sentenced for Embezelment
Former Sylva town board member Anne Cabe was sentenced today to two years of probation for 20 felony counts of stealing from her church. She also was ordered to stay away from Harrah?s Cherokee Casino, which is where prosecutors believe she spent most of the $21,000.
Her attorney, Paul Holt, said that medical bills, loans and an "addiction to gambling" led her to steal the money. The embezzlement occurred between January 2004 and October 2005. She resigned from the Sylva town board after the church reported the missing money to the district attorney?s office.
