Fourth Katrina-Damaged Casino Ready to Open Doors
Treasure Bay Casino was given approval Thursday by the Mississippi Gaming Commission to open its temporary casino in its hotel next week.
"We've got a company that was there when things were good, stayed when things were bad and wants to come back," said Jerry St. Pe, chairman of the commission. In October the casino intends to add 450 slots, 22 table games and another restaurant.
All 250 hotel rooms should be ready for guests as well, Varnes said. Boomtown Casino plans to reopen June 29, exactly 10 months after Katrina washed ashore and caused massive destruction. Officials with the casino's parent company, Penn National Gaming Inc., said the casino on the Back Bay of Biloxi will have new decor, restaurants and slot machines.
