Foxwoods And MGM Mirage Out Of Casino Race In Kansas

The Kansas Lottery Commission has been as in depth as possible in trying to reach agreements with casino developers who want to run a casino in the state. Already having been approved, the casinos still do not know who will be running them.

On Tuesday, the Commission moved closer to finding the answers to that question. Ten proposals to run the casinos have now moved on to a review board. The board will pick three of them to be the operators of the state owned casinos.

One surprising development was a group that was not included in the final ten. MGM Mirage and Foxwoods, which were proposing the Chisholm Creek project, dropped out of the running. They claim that they could not reach the necessary agreement with the Lottery Commission.

The ten casino operators will now wait on a decision by the review board. One developer has already been chosen for Cherokee County. The three remaining licenses will go to casinos in Wyandotte County, Sumner County, and Ford County.

Of the three counties, three proposals have been submitted in Sumner and two for Ford County. Wyandotte is the prize of the group. They still have five contracts that need to be reviewed before a winner is chosen.

Kansas has moved ever so slowly in the selection process. There have been several times when the process was close to being complete, but extensions were needed.
