Foxwoods Casino Starts At The Top With Job Layoffs
What was already known was that Foxwoods Resort Casino was about to lay off around 700 employees. What was not known was that they were going to start their firings at the top.
Chief Executive Officer Patricia Irvin was one of the first employees to be let go by Foxwoods. her last day was on Friday, and now that she has been fired, notice has been served to everyone that their jobs are not safe.
The company announced that they were laying off about 700 employees last week. It was thought that the jobs would be mostly from the restaurants and bars, but Irvin's firing signals that it will not only be limited to those areas.
"I have the greatest respect and admiration for the tribe and its accomplishments, and wish the tribe the very best in this difficult climate," said Irvin, in a written statement that was released on Monday.
The tribe is the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe that owns Foxwoods. The tribe made it clear they are only making this decision on Irvin for financial reasons.
"It was a difficult decision, but we felt a necessary one given our recent decisions to realign our expense structure in response to the current economic environment," said Chairman of the Tribal Council, Michael Thomas, in a statement.
