More Bait for Problem Gamblers
Foxwoods Resort Casino has a new program that offers cash to patrons for gambling, but anti-gambling groups say the program is highly detrimental to problem gamblers with serious addiction.
The program allows patrons to get cash for their Wampum Points, which are earned by playing gambling slot machines and table games with a Wampum Rewards card. Players can use the points accumulated to purchase food, drinks, merchandise, hotel rooms and, now, cash.
"It's an enhancement to our Wampum Rewards program," said Richard Jeffries, director of Wampum Rewards at Foxwoods. "It's the first cash program in the Northeast.
"One Wampum point being used for merchandise, food or rooms is worth $1. Under the cash program, a player can turn in half their points for cash and get half the value of the points.
