Foxwoods Receives Casino Endorsement From Sumner County
The state of Kansas is back at work trying to sort out their casino mess. After several years, only one of the four zones approved for casino gambling is actually being developed. The other three have been put back up for new bids.
Sumner County is one of those zones, and on Monday the Sumner County Commission gave an endorsement to three separate casino plans. All three of the proposals are for casinos near the Kansas Turnpike.
Foxwoods Development is one of the three endorsements. They have offered a proposal that would bring a $225 million casino on the Kansas Turnpike near Mulvane. The Foxwoods plan would bring almost 1,000 jobs to people of Kansas.
Lakes Entertainment Inc. has a plan for the same area. Their casino would be a $240 million project, and it is estimated that 1,700 jobs would be created. Their casino proposal would be 45,000 square-foot smaller than the Foxwoods plan.
The third proposal is for a casino in Wellington and also came from Lakes Entertainment. The Wellington casino plan is the same as the one near Mulvane, only in a different location.
All three of the proposals will now be reviewed by the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission. The two groups had to rework their original offers to receive the endorsement. Lakes and Foxwoods both agreed to add a hotel to their facility in the first phase of the building process.
