From Gambling How-To Books to Religious Protestant Guides
One man who used to be heavy handed advocate of gambling and a how-to casino game author, has changed his ways and is making his gambling publishing firm into a religious publishing firm.
"What got me so upset is the glamorization of poker to young people and the opportunistic grabs by online operators of poker Web sites to try to hook young people," Gollehon said.
"I'm hearing about kids 10 and 12 years old who get hooked until Mom's or Dad's credit card bill shows up, and there's a whole lot of explaining to do."
The logical train of thought would perhaps lead Gollehon to write books about the dangers of gambling addiction, or perhaps he would become an anti-internet gambling advocate, or even explain he could explain to parents how to keep their kids from stealing their credit cards, or how to safe-gaurd their home computers.
But Gollehon has not started publishing books like that, instead he has chosen to publish books that will take a traditional Protestant look at the religious world.
Gollehon said, "I'm not anti-gambling. I think the problem is the proliferation of gambling across the U.S. so that it's available to everyone now all the time. Now, too many people are involved in gambling, and a lot of them don't understand about it."
Some of Gollehon's lifelong friends in the gambling business don't understand their friend's change of heart. One problem is that there's little scientific data to support claims of an upswing in problem gambling, so Gollehon's warnings about young gamblers can't be proven.
Gollehon believes studies will show the serious problems in coming years.
