Gambler Claims South Korea Casino Corruption Led To His Addiction
A South Korean man has already won a monetary judgement against the Kangwon Land casino, but he claims the amount won does not equal his losses. Now he is going back to court to try and claim the rest of the money he lost gambling at the casino.
Chung, as he is being identified as, is suing the casino for 30 billion won. Last year, Chung won a judgement for 23 million won, but says that is not enough to cover his losses, so he is appealing the ruling.
The government-run casino is accused not only of allowing the man to continually bet and lose, but also of breaking their own laws. Chung claims that the casino allowed him to bet more than the legal limit by turning a blind eye to the situation.
The casino is contending that Chung lost the money the same way any other gambler could. He placed bets at his own will, and lost in an ordinary way. They have fought the charges brought against them from the beginning.
Kangwon Land is the only casino in South Korea that can admit Koreans. The laws regarding casino gambling are extremely strict in the country, and the idea that it was the only legal casino fueled Chung's addiction even more.
Chung also has claimed that he was permitted to bet up to ten million won per bet. He used other people to also place bets for him, sometimes up to five at a time. That allowed Chung to gamble 60 won per play.
