Gambling Commences At FireKeepers Casino In Michigan
Residents of Michigan have been waiting months for this day. The highly anticipated FireKeepers Casino has finally arrived, opening its doors to customers for the first time on Wednesday. It was a day filled with excitement throughout the state.
"I just couldn't wait until they opened those doors," said Bryan Wilmington, who arrived in the early morning hours so that he could say he was one of the first patrons inside the casino, "when the doors finally opened, I went right to a machine and put twenty dollars in."
That type of excitement could be found at every turn on the casinos first day. Thousands of people jammed into the casino to say that they were there on the first day of operation. It was a moment many Michigan residents have been waiting a long time for.
The casino has specific themes of air, earth, wind and fire, according to Laura Spurr, Chairwoman of the Nottaswaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi, the tribe that built the casino. Spurr also noted that the casino was built on time, something not may casinos around the country can say these days.
FireKeepers has much more than just gambling that it offers its customers. There are five restaurants, a sports bar, and live acts daily. The atmosphere on Wednesday was nothing short of electric and casino executives expect it to be like that for a while.
The casino is friendly to both smokers and non-smokers. There are top of the line ventilation systems throughout the casino, and non-smoking slot areas are available. Michigan has been among the worst hit by the economy, and the casino has done their part to help, hiring 1,500 new employees.
It is expected that the casino will generate over $100 million annually, money that the state will certainly put to good use. There are almost 100 table games and over 2,600 slots for players who will come from all over Michigan and neighboring states to gamble.
