Gambling Increasing and CIA May be Spying
The students who have gambled, said Laurie Sutter, state behavioral health prevention manager, report that the most common age to begin gambling is 10 or younger.
Sutter speculated that the proliferation of poker games on TV, the glamorization of gambling in American culture and the increased opportunities to gamble, on the Internet and other places, may be fueling the increase.
One danger, Sutter said, is that gambling, like using drugs and engaging in other risky behaviors, may have a chemical effect on the brain which could result in predisposing kids to addictive behavior. The biennial survey, which included 27,625 students in grades 6, 8,10 and 12, measured kids involvement in drinking, drug use, gambling and anti-social behavior.
