Is Casino Gambling the Right Answer
A casino, riverboat gambling, video poker or any other form of legalized gambling is not the answer to the problems or economic woes to downtown Monroe, Ouachita Parish or northeastern Louisiana.
Although a citizen of a nearby community, much of my time and money is spent in the Monroe-West Monroe area, and I would be very disappointed if the people of Monroe were to fall to such a desperate state as to even consider casino gambling as an option to revitalize downtown Monroe or any other part of the city.
Many times over the last 20 years, the people of the state of Louisiana have been promised better roads, better schools and economic prosperity from the lottery, video poker and riverboat gambling. Well, just look around and see what we have! Bad roads, struggling schools and a floundering economy. It is obvious that gambling has not worked so far, and it will not be the answer or the catalyst to the economic prosperity of downtown Monroe or any other part of northeastern Louisiana.
