Remington Park in Oklahoma will be under the control of new owners when 2010 begins, and there is a sense that the new owners are putting gaming high on their priority list when it comes to renovations.
Global Gaming will be taking control of Remington Park when the calendar turns to the new year, and already they have made promised to patrons of the twenty-one year old racing facility. Among the promises are fifty new slot machines, bringing the total to the maximum allowed by state law.
In addition to the new games, the company, which bought Remington from bankrupt Magna Entertainment Corp., is dedicated to upgrading the existing machines. They are planning to change out some of the older machines for more up-to-date models.
"The technology is almost like video games," said Global Gaming CEO John Elliot, as reported by The Associated Press, "It moves quickly and you have to be upgrading it all the time. I suspect (the casino) hasn't had major upgrades in two to three years."
The upgrades are a necessity if Remington Park is going to keep up with the growing casino industry around the country. Casinos are being built all across the Midwest and competition is tougher than ever before.
The project is not going to be completed over night. Elliot believes that renovations will continue for the next three years, and almost every area of the casino will be upgraded. New signs, carpet, and structural improvements are all on the list of improvements, in addition to the gaming upgrades.
