Gambling Movie Outperforms George Clooney At Box Office
George Clooney is one of the most recognizable celebrities on the planet. When he comes out with a new movie, there is rarely a time that it does not start out on top at the box office.
That is the case, however, with his latest movie, "Leatherheads". The movie is about a football team, and perhaps the timing of the release had something to do with its poor box office performance.
The gambling movie "21" remained on top at the box office for the second consecutive week. The movie stars Kevin Spacey, also no stranger to the celebrity world.
Clooney's timing for his new movie could not have been any worse. The college basketball season is coming to a close, while the baseball season had its first full weekend of games.
"I'm disappointed for us. I'm disappointed for George. I think he's a great guy and think he's got tons of directing talent. I wish I could tell you what went wrong," said Nikki Rocco, from Universal Pictures.
The movie, which centers around the game of football, only made $13.5 million. That number is well below expectations for a movie that had a large budget. It cost $60 million to make the picture.
