Gambling Revenue Decrease Hurting Nevada Governor's Rating
The governor of Nevada basically has one major group of people he needs to satisfy in order to receive high approval ratings. That group of people includes anyone who is associated with casinos in the state.
According to a recent statewide poll, Governor Jim Gibbons has not done what he was sworn into office to do. Sixty six percent of those polled did not approve of the job that Gibbons is doing.
The state of Nevada has always, and will always, be judged by their casinos. Las Vegas is the gambling center of the United States and when they are not going well, people are going to take note.
Revenue figures are way down in the state's casinos since Gibbons took office. This does not mean that it is only his fault, but not being able to turn around those numbers is having a negative effect on how people view his success.
"Gibbons has become almost invisible. Executives generally are expected to act, even if that action is largely symbolic," said Political Scientist from the University of Nevada, Eric Herzig.
The fact that Gibbons has not made a move to help the casino industry out is in large part the problem. Those polled feel that Gibbons should be more active in moving the state out of its current economic funk.
