Gambling Revenue Will Fund Police Projects In Pennsylvania
In the state of Pennsylvania they have drastically expanded their casino gambling operations over the past few years. One of those operations takes place at the Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs.
The state Department of Community and Economic Development has released their list of where the $13.8 million generated from gambling at the Pocono Downs facility will go. The majority of the money will be used for Luzerne County police departments.
"This money comes at a good time because with the current economy many of the projects that need to be completed for these police departments would never have been funded without the help of the gambling money,' said observer Francis Hermester.
The money will be used for different projects depending on the department. In Wilkes-Barre, they are trying to complete a surveillance camera system for the city. Wyoming will be using the money for two new police cruisers.
In Swoyersville the police station is being moved one mile north of its current location in order to free up space. They will also be buying two new police cruisers.
It is not only the police departments that are receiving help from the gambling money. Misericordia University was given money for their planned Health Sciences building, and other money has gone to individual projects in different communities.
