The Illinois Gaming Board said Wednesday it expects to introduce a policy at its meeting next month to strengthen its casino self-exclusion program, but did not provide details. Board member Rev. Eugene Winkler said the panel has been meeting with the Illinois Casino Gaming Association about the self-exclusion program and plans to present the new policy at the June 22 meeting at the Empress Casino in Joliet. The Grand Victoria in Elgin, Hollywood in Aurora, Empress in Joliet and Casino Queen in East St. Louis already card every entrant, but anti-gambling advocates want the state to require all casinos to so.

The gaming board has been considering a proposal by casino and gambling critics that would require the state?s nine casinos to check the driver licenses or state-issued IDs of each of the more than 15 million people that walk through their doors. The proposal is intended to prevent problem gamblers on the self-exclusion list, who have asked to be barred from the casinos, from entering the riverboats.
