Garth And Gambling: Brooks Signs Deal With Wynn's Encore Casino

Steve Wynn has access to more money than just about every person in Las Vegas. So when Garth Brooks decided that Wynn could not afford him, Wynn scoffed at the idea, then made Brooks an offer he could not refuse.

"I told him he couldn't afford me," said Brooks, as reported by The Associated Press, "I was wrong. Wow." Now, Brooks will be playing the Encore on weekends for possibly the next five years.

Originally, Brooks had sent Wynn an e-mail asking if he could play by himself in the Encore theatre. He asked for Wynn to invite some close friends and have a listen. That was all it took for Wynn to begin his courting of Brooks.

Of course there were some logistics that needed to be worked out before Brooks signed on the dotted line. There was the issue of Brooks' teenage daughters, a problem Wynn quickly solved by offering a private jet for Brooks to travel home with after the Sunday shows.

Brooks has been retired now for almost ten years and the Encore deal with give him the chance to refine his show for a possible complete comeback. Brooks will play the Encore fifteen weeks out of the year. His first show will be December 11th, and is sure to sell out.

"I will certainly be making a trip out to Vegas to see Garth's show," said Fran Grelder, "I have been waiting years for him (Brooks) to start touring again, and while this is not a full blown tour, it is still a chance to see someone I have always admired."
