The state of Pennsylvania has taken aim at the Atlantic City casino gambling industry, and they have expanded over the past couple of years in a big way. Now, the state may be eyeing Gettysburg as the next target.

Lawmakers in the area are open to the idea of a proposed slot casino in Gettysburg, but they are conscious about protecting the Gettysburg Battlefield. They will go into discussions about the casino with that premise in mind.

"I know Dave LeVan, and know that the proposal that he's behind will be a class-act project," said Pennsylvania Senator Richard Alloway, as reported by the Gettysburg Times.

Pennsylvania is prepared to make a major splash in the casino industry in the Northeast. Lawmakers have already written table game gambling revenue into the state budget, but they have yet to actually pass the laws that will legalize table games.

In order to be approved for the Gettysburg casino, the developer who submitted the plan may have to create the casino with the Gettysburg image in mind. The area has a storied history, and lawmakers want that history to be part of the casino.

Others who are no as in favor of the casino plan, believe that connections to local lawmakers may be the reason the casino plan is being considered. The lawmakers claims that political connections should not be the reason that a casino plan is approved.
