Greektown Casino Has Revenue Increase In May
The Greektown Casino Hotel has had its share of problems in the recent past. They have had financial difficulties that have led to the casino being put up for sale. All of the outside distractions, however, have not affected the casinos business.
In May, Greektown was the only one of the three Detroit casinos that had a revenue increase over the same month in the previous year. Their revenue increased by 7.2% in May. That was enough to have the casino beaming with confidence.
"We're giving our guests the most for their money-on the casino floor, in the hotel, and at our food and beverage outlets," said Amanda Totaro, Vice president of Marketing for Greektown, in a press release, "Each and every month Greektown is filled with great promotions."
The other two Detroit casinos did not fare as well as Greektown. MGM Grand Detroit had a decrease in revenue of 10.9%, while MotorCity Casino Hotel's revenue dropped 3.6%. The overall revenue decrease for the city's casinos was 4.25%.
While Greektown is happy with the May results, they still have a long way to go before they bring in as much revenue dollars as the other two casinos. MGM Grand had revenue of $47.2 million in May. MotorCity was at $40.5 million, and Greektown had May revenue of $30.2.
The just over four percent decrease was minimal compared to what some casinos in other states are experiencing. In Atlantic City, revenue has dropped over twenty percent in recent months, and Las Vegas casinos have also seen their revenue drop drastically.
