Greektown Casino Will Open Expanded Gaming Area At End Of August
Greektown Casino is finding out that sometimes things happen for a reason. After filing for bankruptcy earlier in the year, they now are preparing to open their expanded gambling floor on August 29th.
Back in May, constructions crews were ready to walk off of the job. The company did not have the money to keep the expansion project going. Filing for the bankruptcy protection allowed them to go out and secure the money needed to finish the project.
The project cost in the $500 million range and is now almost complete. It was originally expected that the casino would be completed and open September, but they are ahead of schedule by almost two weeks.
The casino will have a total of 3,000 slot machines after the 700 they are adding. They also are working on a hotel which will have 400 rooms, a two story lobby, and meeting space.
The hotel is not projected to be completed until May of next year. Coincidentally, the casino is also expected to come out of bankruptcy by the end of the summer of 2009, according to Greektown spokesman Roger Martin.
