Greektown Gamble On Hotel Room Rate Paying Off In Casino
Every casino in the US is working on ways to beat the recession. The economy has become so bad that even casinos, which were once considered untouchable, are struggling mightily to keep customers walking through the doors.
The Greektown Casino in Detroit, Michigan, opened their new hotel tower in mid-February, and so far the hotel has led to high rewards for the casino. The nightly rate is only $99 a night for the time being, and it is doing its job in luring customers.
"We're really pleased with that because we just opened...it's getting people here,' said Vice President of Guest services for the hotel, Bill Williams, "We're giving people a chance to experience a brand-new, fresh product for $99."
The hotel has 400 rooms and has remarkably been sixty percent full during the week. That number grows to at least eighty percent full on the weekends. With other casinos struggling to bring in customers, Greektown is pleased that the room rate is helping patrons continue to gamble at the casino.
It is not only the casino that is benefiting from the hotel being full. The restaurant is busy keeping all of their guests fed, and that means more jobs are being created, sending more money into the local economy.
The hotel started the room rate as an introductory offer, but they have not decided yet when, or if, they will raise the rate. For now, they are just enjoying the business. "It's a win all the way around," said Williams.
