Greenbrier Begins Decision Process On Casino In West Virginia
It is not often that a resort is offered the opportunity to bring a casino to their facility and turns that opportunity down. That could be the case with Greenbrier Resort, however, in West Virginia.
Voters had their say last Tuesday and the majority of voters concluded that it would be fine to have Greenbrier operate a casino. The resorts owner, CSX Corp. is now deciding whether casino gambling would be in the resorts best interest.
The vote this year came as somewhat of a surprise, though it did speak to the magnitude of the current state of the economy in the United States. Voters eight years ago did not approve the casino at Greenbrier, but this time around it passed.
Still, the company is moving slowly to ensure they make the best decision. "To even institute a gaming facility would require a substantial investment. That's why we want to make sure we are making the right decision we want to make a quantitative impacts as well as the qualitative impacts that such a facility would have on the resort," said Greenbrier Public Relations Director Lynn Swann.
While the company decides the fate of the resort, they are still negotiating with a workers union representing their employees. Those negotiations will continue at the end of November in the hopes of getting a deal in place.
