Harrah's Brings In Las Vegas CEO To Turn Around AC Gambling Fortune
The Atlantic City casino industry has been on the decline now for the better part of three years. That decline may be the only thing that convinced one of Harrah's top Las Vegas CEO's to ditch Sin City for the East Coast.
Don Marrandino has spent the past couple of decades of his life running casinos out in the gambling capital of the US. he will spend the next couple of years of his life trying to restore what was once a proud gambling destination itself, Atlantic City.
"I loved Las Vegas," said Marrandino, "I had a great life there, but the more I thought about it, I thought I could be part of another good story, a big turnaround in Atlantic City."
Marrandino will take over as the leader of Harrah's East Coast operations. He will take on the task of having to turn around an Atlantic City casino industry that has been destroyed over the past several years.
His job will be even tougher because of the competition that Atlantic City casinos now face. New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Delaware have all expanded their casino options and are going after the core base of customers in Atlantic City.
Marrandino is from Atlantic City, so getting accustomed to the lifestyle should not be difficult. Resurrecting Harrah's AC casinos, however, will be a different story.
"I think there are a lot of really good things here," said Marrandino, "I don't think people say enough about the great things."
