Harrah's Entertainment Building New Casino Resort In Slovakia
Harrah's Entertainment has experienced the financial problems of the global recession just like all other casino companies, but it has not stopped Harrah's from looking to the future. On Tuesday, the company announced plans to build a new casino resort in Slovakia.
The plan is to partner with Hungary's TriGranit. The financial terms of the deal have not been laid out, but the casino resort is expected to cost $2.2 billion. This comes at a time when other companies are expanding their global reach as well.
Las Vegas Sands has multiple expansion projects going on across the world, and Wynn Resorts is also expanding their brand. The US-based companies have all made it a point in recent times to expand their reach beyond Las Vegas and the US.
MGM Mirage has kept their focus in Sin City. The CityCenter project that is under construction is expected to change the face of casino resorts in Las Vegas. That is also a project that is a joint venture between MGM and Dubai World.
The Slovakia project, which is being promoted as "Metropolis," is one that Harrah's is hoping will bring in five million tourists a year. The project will bring in over 25,000 employment opportunities.
Under the terms of the agreement with TriGranit, Harrah's would run the casino and hotel, with TriGranit operating the entertainment park and shopping mall. Construction would begin sometime in 2010.
