Harrah's Given Two Fines From Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board
Harrah's Entertainment, fresh off their victory in securing a casino contract in Sumner County, Kansas, received bad news on Thursday. They have been fined by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.
The news comes on the heels of Friday's appearance in court by an Indian tribe in Kansas that is suing Harrah's for violating a non-compete clause in a previous contract. The lawsuit was brought on after Harrah's secured the bid for the Sumner County casino.
The fines that were handed down from the Gaming Board stem from an incident back in March of this year. The casino allowed underage gambling to take place at their Harrah's Chester Downs and Marina LLC (Harrah's Chester Casino and Racetrack).
The casino, according to the Gaming Board, allowed an underage person to gamble on slot machines and then cash in a winning ticket. The person was eventually thrown out of the casino once security caught up with them and asked them for identification.
The fine for that violation was $20,000. The company also received a fine of $10,000 for separate incidents where security staff was not present in security zones inside of the facility.
Each of the six zones inside the facility must be monitored physically by security personnel. "Pennsylvania casinos have a statutory obligation to keep underage individuals off the gaming floor. The corrective actions approved by the Board today make it clear to all casinos that underage gambling will not be tolerated," said Gaming Control Board Chair, Mary DiGiacomo.
