Harrah's Security Guards Charged With Stealing From Casino
Earlier this week a dealer was arrested for taking part in a casino scam in California. Then, eight others were arrested, and now, two security guards at Harrah's Casino in Atlantic City have been arrested as well.
The security guard arrests were not related to the other casino heists, but it may have been the most obvious of all the crimes. Joe Callender and Johnny Wright have both been arrested for stealing from the casino in which they worked.
Vending machines at Harrah's were damaged and it caused security to call the police in Atlantic City. When the police arrived and checked the tapes of the damaged machines, they found that it had been two security guards in uniform that broke into the machines.
Callender and Wright took the cash boxes out of the machines and did around $5,000 worth of damage to the machines in the process. Authorities claim that the security guards kept about $2,000 for themselves. They have both been charged with criminal mischief, conspiracy, and theft. Bail has been set at $20,000 apiece.
The arrests in Atlantic City conclude a busy week for police agencies around the country. Arrests were made earlier this week in a casino scam operation that netted the criminals over $1 million. That operation had been taking place since 2005, according to authorities.
