History Repeating Itself As Golden Gaming Pulls Kansas Casino Bid
The state of Kansas has seen this story unfold one too many times over the past couple of years. A casino developer shows great interest in bringing a casino to the state, then pulls the rug out from under Kansas.
This time it was Golden Gaming doing the rug pulling. The company has announced that he financing for a Wyandotte County casino has been difficult to secure, so they are withdrawing their bid to operate a casino in the county.
"While we are disappointed by Golden's decision, we look forward to working with the Unified Government in ensuring a successful casino project is developed that benefits all the citizens of Wyandotte County," said Edwardsville Mayor John McTaggart, in a statement.
The Golden Gaming withdrawal brings up memories of the past couple of years in Kansas. The first time through the process, three of the four developers that were chosen to run casinos broke their commitments.
It is true that the deals were struck before the economy began to collapse, but the deals were still in place. Some of the developers that won the rights the first time around have come back with new proposals that involve less commitment.
Golden Gaming was among a group of three developers that had agreed to deals with Wyandotte County. The other two will now move on in the process and try to secure the casino contract.
