Horse Racing Comes To California Casino This Weekend
The state of California is similar to other states when it comes to their racetracks. The economy has forced hard times on the tracks, and state governments are looking for ways to help them survive.
One of those ideas is being implemented this weekend at Commerce Casino. Off track betting will be available at kiosks set up at the casino in an effort to try and raise revenue for the struggling tracks in the state.
"We are incredibly excited about this," said Craig Fravel, Executive Vice President at Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, "If patrons were inclined to go to other places to make wagers....we are not worried about that."
The tracks are not in a position to be picky on how the betting is done. The economy has stripped their business and any form of revenue is good revenue at the current time. The tracks are just grateful for a chance to stay open and compete with other tracks nationally.
In Kentucky, several proposals have been discussed by lawmakers to help their racing industry. The Kentucky industry is one of the most storied in the US, yet they have not been able to withstand their financial struggles.
Ohio is another state where the racing industry is searching for help. Governor Ted Strickland has signed an executive order this past week that will allow slot machines to be operational at state tracks.
