Hotel Barge Proposed for Silver Slipper Casino
The Silver Slipper Casino barge down on the Gulf Coast may soon be able to extend its amenities offered to guests. Instead of driving home after a long night of casino style gambling, guests will be able to stay over night in the new hotel section which is currently being discussed.
Edward Renton and Terrace Forstall have proposed docking a new barge adjacent to the Silver Slipper equipped with a hotel, restaurant, and various other guest quarters. The two men have asked the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources and the Army Corps of Engineers for permission to install two massive concrete pilings to support the new hotel barge. The new hotel barge would be over 150 feet long, and close to 50 feet wide.
John Ferrucci, the general manager of the Silver Slipper, said the casino is exploring the possibility of entering into an agreement with the two partners to use the barge, which he described as a floating lodge with 25 rooms and a small lobby.
"We're not sure if we want to go ahead and rent this thing from him," Ferrucci said. "He's trying to get all the permits in place in case we do decide to. We don't want to be responsible for this barge. He has to have his own insurance."
Casino players in the area are excited about the new hotel barge. Jeff Langely, a regular at the Silver Slipper says, "I don't understand why the Slipper would not go through with this deal. As long as the permits and insurance are taken care of, its a win-win for everybody."
