One Macao casino has been dealt a tough hand because of how new the industry is in the gambling haven claimed to be more popular than Las Vegas. Yesterday a 16 year old girl walked into The Sands Casino with her mom, put a couple coins in a slot machine, and hit the jackpot.

Saturday, reports from local newspapers said the casino will have to pay the girl the $95,000 jackpot. The Gaming Inspection and Co-ordination Bureau said that according to Macao law the winnings had to be handed over.

"This is a contract between the casino and the player," said a spokesman. "In technical legal terms, our legal advisor said that according to Macao law, the contract is valid."

The law is a result of how new the gambling haven is, they have never been faced with these circumstances before and so there has never been such a clause in any contract ever written there.

It is expected that a new clause will be adding to the law ruling that winnings will not be paid to anyone underage.

The former Portuguese colony, which was handed back to China in 1999, opened up its gaming industry to overseas operators in 2002, ending a 40 year monopoly by casino mogul Stanley Ho.

Previously the government did not need to amend the gaming laws and instead just altered clauses in its contract with Ho.
