Hundreds Of Employment Opportunities Coming To Rivers Casino
Pennsylvania lawmakers knew that by legalizing table games, they would be helping lower the unemployment rate in the state. On Monday, the Rivers Casino announced they would be hiring hundreds of employees to help operate the table games.
For much of the last six months, Governor Ed Rendell has been pushing for lawmakers to legalize table games. Earlier this year, legislators responded. Pennsylvania casinos now have the fire power to compete with Atlantic City, with the hopes of becoming the top gaming destination in the Northeast.
Rivers Casino is one of the newer facilities in Pennsylvania. The casino expects to launch the approved table games in the summer, and they have begun their search to fill 300 to 350 positions related to the operation of the games.
"What the lawmakers in Pennsylvania has done will be great for the economy in the state," said Gaming Analyst Brad Dawkins, "The amount of tax revenue generated from the table games will go a long way in helping to balance the state budget."
Gambling expansion is at an all-time high in the US. Connecticut, Maryland, Delaware, New York, and Pennsylvania have all increased their gambling options, and have put pressure on New Jersey to keep their hold as the strongest gambling outfit in the Northeast.
Atlantic City casinos have seen double digit decreases in revenue for many months in a row, and the revenue losses have taken a toll. Several casinos have filed for bankruptcy, and other planned projects have been tabled in the past six months.
In December, Pennsylvania casinos had higher slot revenue than AC casinos for the first time ever. With the addition of table games, Pennsylvania casinos are now setting their sights on becoming the top gambling destination in the Eastern US.
