Illinois Casinos Lose Battle For Twenty Four Hour Operation
First, casino developers try and secure licenses for putting casinos in areas where casino gambling is legal. Somewhere down the road, the casinos try and get permission to stay open around the clock.
In Illinois, casinos have asked the state Gaming Board for the right to stay open for twenty four hours. They were denied by the Board, and now will be stuck having to stay open for just twenty two hours a day.
The casinos were claiming that, if allowed to stay open around the clock, they could generate more revenue money for the state. They also say the expanded hours would help with the slow times of late.
"We heard from a lot of people, especially people who were concerned about individuals who were compulsive gamblers who might not leave the premises and go 'round the clock," said Judge Aaron Jaffe, Chairman of the Gaming Board.
The money that would be generated from the expanded hours would not outweigh the potential danger that an extra two hours could do to problem gamblers. The Board, does not fear, however, that twenty two hours gives problem gamblers enough time to do damage to themselves.
