Now, the slots equivalent has been created. The inaugural World Series of Slots took place this past week at the Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, and the turnout and competition was a welcomed addition for the city in tough economic times.
"A World Series of Slots has never been done before, and players from all over loved the head-to-head challenge," said Tilman Fertitta, Chief Executive Officer of Golden Nugget, "This event was a huge success that we're sure to repeat in the future."
The big winner from the tournament that was held April 17-19, was Michele Leone from San Diego, California. Leone walked away with the top prize of $100,000 and a WSOS bracelet. The runner up in the event was Vera Panjanon-Wolf, who took home $15,000.
The tournament structure was set up for one on one action. With each round that a player won, they were guaranteed more money. The top four places in the tournament all made over $8,000 and all the way up to place 140 were guaranteed at least $500.
