Indian Casino Executive Gets 4 Years In Prison
A former casino executive who admitted to embezzling $500,000 from an Indian gambling resort near Temecula to support his own gambling addiction was sentenced to four years in prison.
Paul Del Vacchio agreed to pay back the money he took from the Pechanga Resort and Casino while serving as its controller. He made the restitution deal while pleading guilty to 26 felonies, including grand theft, identity theft and embezzlement.
The four-year sentence was the maximum allowed by the agreement with Superior Court Judge James Warren.
Del Vacchio's supporters urged Warren to lighten the sentence. Counselor Marc Lefkowitz said Del Vacchio had made strides toward recovering from his online gambling addiction and has helped other addicts.
But the judge said Del Vacchio's gambling addiction does not justify his crimes.
