It may be true that there are some dangers involved with bringing a casino to an area of the US. It also is true, however, that while the economy continues to take a turn for the worst, casinos are offering relief.

Indiana Live Casino in Shelby County, Indiana is doing something that is out of the norm in these trying times. They are holding job fairs to try and fill 350 permanent job positions. This comes at a time when other businesses are cutting their labor costs.

The casino is preparing to open their permanent facility in a couple of months. They currently are operating out of a temporary casino since June. The temporary casino has over 400 employees.

"What Indiana Live is doing is a breath of fresh air. With many people losing their jobs, it is nice to see that at least 300 people will be able to find work," said Rupert Simmons, a patron of the temporary casino.

The first of three scheduled job fairs will be held on Friday at the Indiana Downs race track. There will also be another fair at the track in February. The third of the fairs is set for the Indianapolis Star's Diversity and Education Fair at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis.

Casinos often catch a lot of criticism from opponents who claim only harm can be done by building a casino. Indiana Live is showing the other side that opponents often overlook. The side that brings 350 new jobs to a community struggling economically.
