The casino industry in general in the United States has never felt this type of crunch. It is true that the nation has gone through difficult times before, but the casino industry has had a knack of surviving and even prospering.

That is not the case4 this time around. The casino industry is being hit as hard, if not harder, than any other industry in the U.S. in the current state of the economy. Indiana casinos are no exception.

Casinos in Indiana have carved themselves a nice niche, but the economy is threatening the industry. Revenue numbers or 2008 are down from those of 2007 and insiders feel they know the exact cause.

"A big loss in wealth may be something that the gaming industry is finding tougher to deal with," said Economist Michael Hicks. When asked if he felt casinos could be in danger in Indiana, he said, "I don't expect any of them are going to close. What they are more likely to do is cut back on staff and hours of operation."

Indiana is not the only state that is watching its casino industry struggle. Casinos on the Las Vegas Strip are showing their worst revenue numbers in years. Even overseas in Macau, which has become the gambling capital of the world, revenue figures have decreased.
