Indiana May Revamp Casino Gambling Operations Due To Competition
The casino gambling competition in the US is becoming fierce. In the past few years, casinos have been built at a record pace throughout the country, and it is causing some states that have had casino gambling for a long time to reconsider their options.
One of those states is Indiana. The Hoosier state enacted their casino gambling laws back in 1993, but since then there has been tremendous growth among neighboring states. Lawmakers in Indiana are now starting to examine their laws, and may change some of them in the hopes of fighting off the competition.
One of the laws that will be looked at closely has to do with riverboat casinos in the state having to be able to cruise. They do not currently cruise, but because they must be able to, it has stopped owners of these casinos from renovating their facilities.
The state is also considering allowing the casinos to be moved so that developers can build bigger and better casino resorts. Another law being discussed is the one that prohibits casinos from giving free drinks to their customers.
"We have to look at how we deliver gaming in Indiana," said Representative Trent VanHaaften, "We need to see how it should look in 2010, as opposed to how it was seen back in 1993."
Kentucky lawmakers have recently turned away the idea of expanded gambling, but people in the state are starting to shift in favor of the idea. Eventually, many believe, the state will have casino gambling.
Ohio is on the verge of adding slot machines at their state racetracks. The neighboring states to Indiana are trying to avoid their gambling money from leaving and heading to Indiana, and the Hoosier state will now start to figure out how to keep the out-of-state business.
