Iowa Gambling Regulators Put Off Casino Decision Until July
The state of Iowa has been considering expanding their gambling options this year, but now it looks like residents in the state will not know until the middle of the summer whether or not that expansion will take place.
The gambling industry in the state will now wait until a July 16th meeting of the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission to find out if more casinos are coming to the state. The Commission announced their intentions of waiting until July on Thursday.
The Commission had been waiting on two reports that were ordered to find out what the ramifications of building more casinos would have in the state. The Commission wanted to know whether or not the state could handle gambling expansion.
"Yeah, I think that it's clearly the big issue and it's one of the reasons why I'm glad we had two reports done," said Commission Chairman Greg Seyfer. He has now given members of the Commission until that July meeting to go over the data that was received in the studies.
Other states may be watching closely for a decision from Iowa. South Dakota has already indicated that they would be willing to expand their casino gambling industry to match whatever Iowa does, but members of the Commission say that will not influence their decision.
